Academic Governance: Working with Governing Bodies
Date: Tuesday 6th February 2018
Venue: De Montfort University
The Higher Education Code of Governance (2014) requires HEI governing bodies to work with Senates and Academic Boards to obtain assurance that academic governance is operating effectively to maintain quality, with confirmation to HEFCE as part of Annual Provider Review. In this seminar Aaron Porter, Associate Director (Governance) of The Leadership Foundation will discuss the work undertaken nationally with governing bodies on meeting their academic governance responsibilities, while three HEIs describe how they have supported governors to understand and engage with programme monitoring and review processes and their outcomes. The seminar also considers how the external assurance of academic governance may be impacted by planned changes to the HE regulatory framework (Office for Students) which include the proposed discontinuation of annual review for established providers.
