In January 2019 the third report of the NUCCAT & SACWG research project was published. Titled “The elephant in the room” the report explores whether the management of re-assessment is as rigorous as the management of initial assessment. Project researchers undertook an initial on-line survey of academic regulation and policy, referencing institutional regulations in twenty-five universities in the UK. A more focused follow-up survey addressed specific operational issues regarding re-assessment. Three case studies of policy and practice have also been developed to highlight aspects of innovative practice in re-assessment.
Having addressed strategies for overcoming initial failure (phase 1) and the impact of variations in progression regulations (phase 2), the research project is now entering its final phase. Delegates at the 2019 NUCCAT Conference will learn how they can participate in this research activity.
